// Match Preview: Vicious Slinkies FC v. Caribou FC//

from the dhChornicles | VSFC Soccer Blog by D.R. Higgington

August 24th marks the start of a new season here in the CSC League - and tonight’s late game featuring Vicious Slinkies FC vs. Caribou FC, promises to be a cracker.  While Caribou FC is a relatively unknown force (to this reporter at least) Vicious Slinkies FC are coming from an impressive 3-4-1 previous season finishing the highest in the table in the club’s history.

Many of the club’s star players are returning although issues in goal may stifle the club’s growth. At the end of last season injuries and unavailable players put the squeeze on its remaining players, but through a few end-of-season loans they ended their last 2 games 3-3(D) and 2-1(W) respectively. Will the VSFC continue their winning ways - or will injuries and missing players once again hamper their season’s start?  D.R. Higgington

A day with a high of 81 degrees was much cooler by the 9:00pm game time tonight - dropping down to perfect football weather nearing 65 degrees.  But the action under the lights was as hot as ever as the Vicious Slinkies Football Club took on Caribou FC at the SeaFoam stadium in St. Paul, MN.

Expectations were high for VSFC - who came off a season ending 3-4-1 - the best record in their illustrious history. The first sign of good hope arrived with Seak-Kee Chew (#2) who was listed as doubtful for the evening. Although still suffering from off-season fatigue, he was ready to take over in goal for the Slinkies.

After a fantastic start to their season, Vicious Slinkies FC will face league newcomers Italian Toast Mafia, who last weekend defeated Pagliachi 2-0. Erica T and the Italian Toast Mafia - while being new to the league, have already shown a bit of class by shutting out a team that has continuously beaten VSFC. The Slinkies are also coming in following a big win, taking a 4-0 win off of Caribou FC. Questions remain in goal and star player S. Beggs will be unavailable for this game.  D. Ingebretson is a 75% possibility for this game.  D.R. Higgington

// Match Update - PPD: Vicious Slinkies FC v Italian Toast Mafia//

from the dhChornicles | VSFC Soccer Blog by D.R. Higgington

As any loyal Slinky would know - last night’s game was postponed due to football.  While this seems odd - seeing as the VSFC game is real football - we were unfortunately outnumbered by those practicing American Football at Concordia.  CSC and your humble reporter shall keep you up to date as rescheduling continues.  Next up? Los Premo’s on September 7th. Keep checking back for Match preview and starting VII.  D.R. Higgington

August 13, 2011 - Spurs v. Everton.  A great game not yet played because of the horrible riots in London.  August 31st, 2011. Vicious Slinkies FC v. Italian Toast Mafia. A great game not yet played because of… football*? Yes - it seems that August has been a month of byes for some great teams. Unluckily for Spurs and Everton - they both went on to loose their next games.

Since VSFC had a bye last week, we draw our limited insight to their opponents. Los Premo’s did have the opportunity to play on the 31st - and fell 3-4 to SOS; another new comer to the CSC League. Los Premo’s are currently 0-2 for the season, although their opponents have come in the form of the affore mentioned SOS and the ever difficult Maki United FU. Last season, VSFC and MUFU played out to a very tense 3-3 draw. VSFC pulled back twice in the final 45” to equalize and gain a point. D.R. Higgington

Hmmm… As a devout Slinky - I find it hard to write this match report. Half “oh crap” and half - I-don’t-know-anyone-on-Los-Premo’s-so-I-couldn’t-write-about-them-anyway.  As you can tell by the score line - it wasn’t a good day to be in red and white.  Look at those fans… despair.

So - to spare you fine readers the pain of reliving this tough match - let’s watch 5 other teams falling 5-0 and remember; even those being paid hundreds of millions of dollars ever second of their week - get their ass spanked sometime.

It’s funny how much can change over the course of just two weeks.  When we last wrote this match preview the VSFC were coming off a 4-0 win over Caribou FC.  Now they’re coming off a 5-0 loss to Los Premo’s. There is a new location for the match; changing from Seafoam Stadium in St. Paul to Holy Angels School in Richfield. There are a plethora of new players.  There are new injuries, new strategies.  It’s a whole new game folks. Meanwhile - Italian Toast Mafia has continued their winning ways taking a 5-1 win over the Spazzing Munchkins last week. Will VSFC be able to regain the form from the first game of the season? Only time will tell.  D.R. Higgington

Don’t let this score line fool you avid Slinkies.  Tonight’s match - the rescheduled VSFC v Italian Toast Mafia (ITM) left everyone ready for more.

It was a chilly evening for soccer, the lows dropping into the 50’s. But spirits were high and VSFC were ready to make up for last weeks disappointing display against Los Premo’s.  There was strong play on both halves of the field with the ITM striking first when one of their strikers snuck behind the Slinky back line and slotted home a fine goal.

To be a Slinky is to be a Slinky for life. After last weeks 1-4 loss to the Italian Toast Mafia the Slinkies will take on the 0-3 Gleeful Unicorns. While some teams would see this as an off week - the Slinkies can’t afford to let this game slip them by. M. Fox was on target (sort of) last week - and although the score line doesn’t show it - VSFC created plenty of chances. The Unicorns are coming off a 1-3 loss to Pagliacci. There are issues - however.  Wingback S. Dunlap will be missing the game, as will defensive anchor M. Lo. Can VSFC overcome their UofM field curse? Will they finally break their scoring drought? Find out this Wednesday. D.R. Higgington

If there is one thing that our Slinkies have - it’s heart.  Faced with a 3 goal deficit at half time, some teams would see the game as all but lost.  However our brave team fought back - and maintained a strong presence on the field.  It seemed all for naught, but there were some very important lessons learned.  Despite some brilliant turns of passing - the finishing in front of goal just wasn’t there.
