Don’t let this score line fool you avid Slinkies.  Tonight’s match - the rescheduled VSFC v Italian Toast Mafia (ITM) left everyone ready for more.

It was a chilly evening for soccer, the lows dropping into the 50’s. But spirits were high and VSFC were ready to make up for last weeks disappointing display against Los Premo’s.  There was strong play on both halves of the field with the ITM striking first when one of their strikers snuck behind the Slinky back line and slotted home a fine goal.

Another tough test ahead for VSFC tonight as they face off against Maki United FU. Last year - Slinky fans may remember the tightly contested 3-3 draw that came out of this same fixture.  However - this is a new year, and a new field. Maki United FC comes to the game 2-2. The Slinkies come in 1-4. However - one of the only teams Maki United fell to - was Caribou FU, who the Slinkies triumphed over 4-0. The Slinkies are missing many of their first team players. D. Higgs, E. Matzner, S. Beggs, and J. Cody-Engman will not be available. Can the Slinkies overcome the absent players? Will some of the reserve players coming in have their chance to shine? Only time will tell. D.R. Higgington

Greatest Defensive Goal Scorers.

Since I was unable to compile a full Match Day Report about last night’s fixture featuring VSFC v. Maki United FU - I’ve decided to focus on something else completely. Word is the defensive powerhouse J. May picked up his first league goal last night. The Vicious Slinkies would like to then take a look at the Top 20 Goal Scoring Defenders in the world.  How soon until J. May will join this list? Only time will tell… The Vicious Slinkies face Bimbos next week. D. R. Higgington

This week’s match poses another extremely difficult match for the Vicious Slinkies.  This week they take on the 0-5 Bimbos. “But Mr. Higgington,” you say, “This team has a worse record than our beloved Slinkies!  They should be push overs!”  This is where you would be wrong dear fans - and where the Slinkies themselves must mentally prepare.  The Bimbos have played all of their matches against top tier teams.  Their opponents have all been in the top 5 spots of the league; where as VSFC has played mid to lower table teams.  This will in-deed be a difficult match for our 1-5 VSFC. This is the last regular season game for the fall session and after a 1-6 drubbing the week before VSFC look to pick up their pride and get back to the winning ways they lost after the first week. Also of note - VSFC have once again qualified for the playoffs! Yes - all teams qualify - but the feat is no-more diminished! D.R. Higgington

Last evening’s VSFC game typified the entire season. Wonderful individual performances. Disappointing communication break downs. Excellent displays of team work and defensive fortitude. Opponents that had the correct ingredients to nullify the positives. The game was not a bad game.  The game was two sides of a coin. A strong start peppered with shaky moments. A decent defensive showing broken down by two or three strong players.

// Match Preview: Vicious Slinkies FC v Blazer FC//

If there were ever a time for the Slinkies to get back into their stride - tonight would be the night! VSFC are set to take on Blazer FC - the only team lower then they are in the table at 0-4-2. But VSFC must not get sloppy here.  Blazer FC has had strong showings as of late - scoring 5 last week in a 5-5 draw with SOS. Their side can certainly put the ball in the goal - and moving to Seafoam Stadium means the nets will be twice the size of the ones at the Gibson/Nagurski. Rumors are circling again about the VSFC goal keeper - as a virtual unknown may step between the sticks for the late game tonight. Other possible problems see E. Matzner and S. Dunlap as questionable for tonight.  S. Cotton is also unavailable for the game. Will Team Slinky get back to its winning ways for this first playoff game? Come find out tonight! D.R. Higgington

I sit here - avid Slinky fans - with nothing put a cool glass of milk and a whole week’s worth of adrenaline pulsating through my veins.  What an incredible match this turned out to be.  Two - very evenly matched teams fought to a 1-1 draw after the full 40 minutes.

But there was more to this match than simply the final score line. Tonight was about team work. Tonight was about the aforementioned ROCK metaphor representing the back line that anchored down VSFC through the 2nd half. Tonight was about new faces - like that of C. Larson - VSFC’s newest goalkeeper putting together a strong showing between the sticks. Tonight - was about fortitude - playing through an entire match with one male sub. That’s right - our Vicious Lady Slinkies played the full game without once leaving the pitch.

That’s right Slinky fans. After an intense 2nd leg in Carolina the NSC Minnesota Stars make their first ever NASL FINALS.
The will be taking on the Fort Lauderdale Strikers in 2 legs. The first is in Minnesota on October 22nd.  The 2nd leg is in Florida.
Just like last time - I’d love to get a nice big group of Slinkies to go out and cheer them on.  What are your thoughts?

Wednesday, October 26th’s game at the Gibson/Nagurski Football field will bring an end to the fall session of CSC Outdoor Soccer. Our Vicious Slinkies have escaped the very bottom of the table once again - albeit by a slim margin. Tonight’s game is against Pagliacci - one of the few teams that has ended lower by goal differential in the standings. This game does bring back the difficulties of the smaller field size, however.  As seen in the past - VSFC have difficulty on the squat - wide filed that the UofM offers.  Aside from that - this is also coming off of a bye week - which historically has seen VSFC looking rather sluggish on the field.  Will they be able to regain their defensive sparkle from the Blazar FC game? Find out tonight! D.R. Higgington
