They say the hardest loss is when it comes in the dying minutes of a game. This - being the last game of the season - adds a little extra salt into those wounds.  In what was a truly competitive match between two of the bottom run teams a last minute goal by Pagliacci put them over VSFC sealing our team to the bottom two.

The game started quite well for the Slinkies. Going into this game the Slinkies put up an impressive 1-1 draw where their defense showed incredible strength holding off their opponents.  They showed their fortitude again against Pagliacci countering, and perrying shot after shot away from their net.

The game pushed forward with each team sharing equal amounts of ball time. The break came during a bad set of passing from Slinkies, and an equally unfortunate goal keeping mistake by their newly signed goalie C. Larson.  Slinkies responded well after going down by 1, though.  Fighting for position, and linking together numerous times the closest chance from VSFC came when M. Fox released D. Higgs down the left side.  However the cross came to close to the keeper - and although Higgs got a foot onto it - Pagliacci’s goalie wrapped it up.

At the end of the first half, it was VSFC 0-1 Pagliacci.

The 2nd half was another hotly contested series of play.  There were numerous different chances. First coming from Fox as he was released down the edge and then by T. Sassaman who unfortunately powered the ball over the goal from only a few yards out.

VSFC finally got on the board when another excellent set of passing by D. Ingebretson put E. Matzner open directly in front of the goal.  Her shot glanced off the keeper and into the top of the net, equalizing for VSFC.

It was not The Slinkies night, however.  Seconds before the end of the game, a bad deflection placed the Pagliacci striker directly in front of the net.  Although C. Larson reacted the correct direction - it escaped his grasp and found the back of the net.

Moments later the official blew the whistle for the end of the game - ending the fall outdoor season for the Vicious Slinkies Football Club.
