// Match Preview: 40 Below FC vs. Vicious Slinkies FC//

 from the dhChornicles | VSFC Soccer Blog by D.R. Higgington

This week Vicious Slinkies FC take on 40 Below FC.  This game is marked to be much more than just the final game of the regular season for these teams.  It is also scheduled to be 40 Below’s 200th Game!

While The Slinkies and 40 Below have had reasonably comparable seasons; 40 Below at 3-2 and the Slinkies at 2-3, the Slinkies are coming off an awful game last week where they were defeated 8-2 by Snowball’s Chance.  40 Below - on the other hand, won their game over Blazer FC 3-1.

The Slinkies and 40 Below have quite a storied history.  Geoff - 40 Below’s keeper and captain has played for VSFC on numerous occasions as well as B. Banks who was an end-of-season transfer. Sarah Beggs, Vicious Slinkies’ go-to midfielder plays on 40’s Monday team.  Either way - this milestone of a game is set to be a cracker! D.R. Higgington

So I lied. No match report. What you need to know is that our Vicious Slinkies were just that last Wednesday. Vicious.  Sure… 5 of the goals came from a subbed player from the other team… but it’s the final score line that stands. Questions are still out there about the mysterious Deo Gracious, and whether he will be at Nelson Stadium. His agent was not available for comment.

This week the Slinkies face Snowball’s Chance, who are currently 1-2-1. Snowball is coming of a 0-2 loss to Blood, Sweat, and Beers.  The last time VSFC met Snowball was back in February, where they tied 1-1. (an OG from M. Lo and a last second strike by Matzner) One thing to remember for the game - is that it will be at Nelson Stadium at Augsburg College.  What does that mean?  Full size goals. D.R. Higgington

The VSCF are coming back from a week off of play, and a 0-2 loss the week before.  On top of this - the game start time is pushed later than most weeks to 9:30.  With A. Primus and T. Hagan out this week - can the VSFC overcome these obstacles and get back to their winning ways? At 1-2 this season, they still have plenty of time to make a play for a winning season. The last time the Slinkies played soccer slacker, the game ended as a 2-2 drawD.R. Higgington

Is this the new Vicious Slinky Jersey?

Sources close to the club are saying that this could be the design for the new 2012/2013 Vicious Slinky jersey.  Is there any weight behind these rumors?

Seriously though - for those without a jersey - and for those who are interested in having a new one, if everyone picks up one of these shirts from Target - I’ll happily work on getting a number and logo put on it.

// Vicious Slinkies FC 2 - 4 Maki United FU//

from the dhChornicles | VSFC Soccer Blog by D.R. Higgington

After a fantastic first game from the Slinkies - a much different side were unlucky to see their quick 1-0 lead turn into a 2-4 loss at the hands of Maki United FU. The Slinkies added two new players to the mix this game in Alex Primus and DJ Hirst.

The latter - who ended up scoring a brace over the course of the game, opened the scoring just seconds into the game when he drove forward from the back three, and slotted home from inside the box.

The offensive nature of Maki United was too much for the Slinkies, who - uncharacteristically were a little loose in the back line. Although the Slinkies pulled back to 2-3 in the 2nd half - small errors let United put the game away minutes before the final whistle.

There were signs of brightness however - such as the passing that led up to the 2nd goal.  A mix of one twos across the front line finally placed Hirst open in front of goal.  Although the keeper guessed the right direction - Hirst slipped the ball into the net.

If the Slinkies can keep up this positive passing - it will be interesting to see what happens this season!

The Vicious Slinkies take on Blazer FC this Wednesday at 9:05 at the UofM outdoor field.  VSFC haven’t met the Blazers since October 13, 2011.

Last week’s game versus Pagliacci showed a whole new side to the Vicious Slinky team.  Can they continue their forward motion tonight against the always dangerous Maki United FU team?  Although there will be many return players from last week’s game, we wonder if the new members will be able to gel quickly enough to produce the same magnetic drive as last week? D.R. The season is looking bright for the VSFC faithful after a 4-1 drubbing of the ever persistent Pagliacci team.  This game marked the first time that the Slinkies have ever beaten Pagliacci.  The bad luck culminating the last time the teams played each other - when Player/Coach D. Higgs tore his ACL in a 0-4 loss.
