Some great tips for our Slinky Team!
Vicious Slinkies FC 1 - 1 Snowball’s Chance | Match Report
from the dhChornicles | VSFC Soccer Blog by D.R. Higgington
Despite starting the season with a 0-1-2 record, it must be said that this has been the most entertaining season to watch. Defensive awareness, offensive prowess… the simple things that have evaded the Slinkies in seasons past have become shining points of improvement this season.
Take last evenings game for instance. In a game where The Slinkies scored both of the goals in the game - through an unfortunate OG in the first half - and an excellently played cross by M. Fox and a divine strike from E. Matzner in the second - it was the actually the tough defense that was the biggest highlight of the game.
The physically larger and more aggressive Snowball’s Chance had plenty of chances, getting off near 25 shots over the course of the game. However, through consistent defensive positioning - VSFC were able to keep actual shots on goal down under 10.
Highlights included some fantastic battles down both flanks with S. Hengst and M. Lo ushering all attacks away from center. When the rare chance did come down the center - J. May was there as a rock in the back blocking numerous shots. Overall it was an impressive defensive display.
The other highlight - of course - came in the closing moments of the game. A fantastic set of passes between M. Fox and E. Matzner put the striker with only the keeper to beat. With nerves of steel Matzner snuck the ball past the keeper and into the net - snatching away victory from Snowball’s Chance. Amazing teamwork and set up play!
Next week The Slinkies are playing the late, late game against Maki United FU. Tune in then to see how the team does!
Vicious Slinkies FC 2-2 Premiums | Match Day Report
from the dhChornicles | VSFC Soccer Blog by D.R. Higgington
In what has been an interesting last few weeks for the Slinkies - we’ve seen numerous different changes. The major - of course, is the loss of D. Higgs (13) to an ACL tear at the end of last season. Like wise - we’ve seen numerous departures from the team - loosing the likes of T. Sassaman and M. Slater.
However - for every loss there has been a new face. D. Bannister - high scoring sub from seasons past has finally come on full time for the Slinkies. Also joining for the season is D. Hesse, and T. Hagen.
In one of the most exciting, well played Slinky games we saw the Reds be held to a point vs. The Premiums. However - it was VSFC this time who took the early lead going 1-0 in the first half when a perfectly placed shot by D. Ingebretson found it’s way under the keeper and into the corner of the net.
Although there was a host of new players in the game - the Slinkies were quick to bond defensively effectively locking out Premiums dangerous #8. The tying goal came just before half from outside the 18 yard box. A powerful shot found the Slinky goal evening the game at 1-1.
During the 2nd half - the usually defensive Slinkies were aggressive, aiming to put themselves back in front. A nice set of passing put D. Ingebretson back in on goal. The keeper came out to block away the shot but left the goal mouth wide open. Another set of back and forth passes placed the ball to T. Hagen who slotted the ball into the wide open net.
The game continued on - Premiums finally finding the net from a corner to end the game at 2-2. However - the big story of the night was how the Slinkies held together their back line. Moved around the ball with some excellent passing - and finally opened up a team that has historically beaten them. Next week - Slinkies take on Lemon Sharks, another brand new team!
Match Preview: Vicious Slinkies FC v Romance Explosion
from the dhChornicles | VSFC Soccer Blog by D.R. Higgington
The last few weeks have been rather trying for the VSFC team. Not only did they loose 2 weeks ago to arch-rivals Pagliacci - but they also lost two players. Ty Sassaman will not return this season with prior commitments to Broomball - and co-captain D. Higgs will be out for the foreseeable future with an ACL tear sustained during the game. However - this being the last game - we are looking forward to a strong showing by our remaining Slinkies. Their opponents - Romance Explosion will be looking for blood after loosing to the Slinkies 1-0 last time around. When a controversial penalty call was waved away - Slinkies hung on to the game and picked up their 2nd victory. Will the winds blow their way again? Find out tomorrow night! D.R. Higgington

They say the hardest games - are those right after extended breaks and games coming back from big losses. The VSFC are coming back from both this week, and facing an opponent who they have yet to beat in all their competitive seasons. Like last season - this game will mark the last of the regular season. Will The Slinkies be able to overcome both the winter malaise - and their dreaded opponent? Find out tonight - at 9:00pm. D.R. Higgington

Match Preview: Vicious Slinkies FC v Fake Madrid
from the dhChornicles | VSFC Soccer Blog by D.R. Higgington
Tonight’s game marks the final of the regular season for Vicious Slinkies FC. The team takes on Fake Madrid - a completely new test for the team. However - the danger lies not only with the unknown competition - but with the fact that many of the team’s regular players will be missing.
Goalkeeper C. Larson, Midfielders S. Beggs, and B. Banks will all be absent from the game tonight. Super sub S-K. Chew will be filling in between the posts - but the absence of creative players Beggs and Banks could interrupt the flow of the defensively minded Slinky team.
If the Slinkies can come up with a win tonight they will push their overall points total to the highest it’s been with a minimum of two games (playoffs) still to go. Will this winter’s team end up reaching the best record in Slinky history? D.R. Higgington

Vicious Slinkies FC 1-0 Romance Explosion | Match Day Report
from the dhChornicles | VSFC Soccer Blog by D.R. Higgington
The VSFC came back from their heart breaking loss last week and edged a 1-0 victory for themselves this week. It was a hotly contested game that truly came down to the wire when Romance Explosion had a penalty request dismissed, but not moments later ended up with a free kick directly outside the box.
The game started in VSFC’s favor, keeping high possession of the ball. The attack force surged forth connecting with some smart passing - but were unable to get the ball on goal. Strong efforts from E. Matzner and D. Higgs both went wide - but pushed Romance Explosion’s defense back each time.
In what turned out to be the winning strike, D. Ingebretson finally broke his goal drought during the first 20 minutes. When a corner kick was played back out to him - he took the extremely difficult angled shot and slipped it past the keeper’s inside post.
From then on it was a tough back and forth game. Both teams came back in the 2nd half searching for the next goal. E. Matzner came close when she turned a corner kick in towards the near post. The RE keeper was there to deflect it away this time.
D. Higgs also came close when he was sent free down the left side of the field on a counter attack. Unfortunately he couldn’t catch up to the perfectly played through ball by T. Sassaman.
VSFC’s defense was extremely strong during the final 10 minutes. RE brought on their ringers and made a heavy push into Slinky territory. M. Lo, J. May, and S. Hengst stood their ground well deflecting any attack out and away.
In the closing moments of the game - RE’s striker took the ball down the touch line weaving his way past the normally rock solid Slinky defense. When he ran into C. Larson in goal - he took a more than dramatic tumble - appealing straight away for a penalty kick. The official simply waved on play.
The last play of the game came when the RE striker finally got his free kick - however this one fell outside the box. His well placed shot was parried away expertly by the Slinky keeper, and away from goal.
With this win - Slinkies move to 2-2-1 in the league. Next week’s game is at 7:10pm against Fake Madrid. See you there Slinky Fans!

This week’s game will be against new opponents for VSFC. Having never played Romance Explosion before - the game will end up wide open. RE are currently above VSFC in the table - pulling down an extra draw. A win on Wednesday will see the Slinkies go higher than them on the table. It will surely be an interesting match up as these teams have not yet played each other in league play.
However - there seems to be some history between one of RE’s players and T. Sassaman. Will this early knowledge of their players give Sassaman a heads-up against them? D.R. Higgington

Vicious Slinkies FC 0-1 Decepticons | Match Day Report
from the dhChornicles | VSFC Soccer Blog by D.R. Higgington
It came down to the last minute in last Wednesday’s 80’s Toy Derby - featuring the Vicious Slinkies and Decepticons. It was a heart breaking goal in the last minutes of the game that undid the Slinkies this time - in what had been a back and forth very offensive match.
The heat came from both sides through the game - each pushing towards the other end. The first half came to an end dead even at nil-nil, in a match that really could have gone either way.
However - with the clock running down - the Decepticons took a determined grip on the game. It was nearly done when an accidentally flubbed goal kick by the usually reliable C. Larson - nearly rolled into his own goal.
The goal did come - moments later when a Decepticon put a powerful shot past Larson at a tough angle. And - while the VSFC pushed back hard - it did not seem to be their night. Larson even came up during the last corner kick of the evening and nearly it off a half volley.
Next week - is a new game however, and the Slinkies will be looking to get back to their winning ways. Next week’s match is at 6:20. The VSFC take on Romance Explosion!

Many of the Slinky faithful may not remember playing the Decepticons. That could be partially because the VSFC Blog wasn’t around at that time - so you didn’t have such attractive reporting at that point. It could also be - that when the two teams met last - the Decepticons destroyed The Slinkies. 7-1 in fact. And it is a well known fact that Slinky fans have fantastic selective memories. A lot has changed since that long ago drubbing. New players - new mentality… will the Slinkies be able to overcome their old adversaries? D.R. Higgington
